⚙️ Installation & Setup Issues

Markers Helper won't install on macOS

macOS

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. Click 'Open Anyway' next to the blocked app notification. If you don't see this option, try Control+clicking the app and selecting 'Open'.

Windows Defender blocks installation

Windows

This is normal for new software. Click 'More info' then 'Run anyway'. You can also temporarily disable real-time protection during installation in Windows Security settings.

Installation fails with permission error

Permissions

Run the installer as administrator (Windows) or use sudo (macOS/Linux). Ensure you have write permissions to the installation directory.

🔑 License & Activation

License key not working

Activation

Ensure you're copying the entire license key including dashes. Check that you're using the correct email address. License keys are case-sensitive.

Maximum activations exceeded

Device Limit

Each license allows activation on 3 devices. If you've replaced hardware or reinstalled OS, contact support to reset activations.

Trial expired but I just downloaded

Trial

Trials are tied to your device, not download date. If you previously tried Markers Helper, your trial may have already been used. Contact support for a trial extension.

🔧 Performance & Technical Issues

Markers Helper running slowly

Performance

Check available RAM (minimum 4GB recommended). Close other resource-intensive applications. Clear temporary files using the built-in cleanup tool in Settings > Maintenance.

Data files become corrupted

Data

Use File > Repair Database from the menu. Always keep backups using Export > Full Backup. Corruption usually occurs from force-quitting or power loss during saves.

Rubrics not saving changes

Rubrics

Ensure you click 'Save' not just 'Apply'. Check available disk space. If the issue persists, export your rubric and re-import it.

📝 Workflow & Usage

Can't import student roster

Import

Supported formats: CSV, Excel (.xlsx), plain text. Ensure columns are labeled 'Name', 'Email', 'ID'. Remove special characters and extra spaces from names.

Comments not appearing in exports

Export

Check export settings - comments are optional in PDF exports. Ensure you've saved the grading session before exporting. Use 'Include Comments' checkbox in export dialog.

Grading shortcuts not working

Shortcuts

Verify keyboard shortcuts in Preferences > Shortcuts. Some shortcuts may conflict with system hotkeys. You can customize shortcuts for your workflow.
